FL Studio projects

Motif can connect a Library export to its related FL Studio project. This gives you a direct route from listening to editing without turning Motif into a project-file manager.

Automatic matching

When Library folders are scanned, Motif also indexes .flp files. It looks for relationships such as:
  • a project and export with the same normalized name;
  • a project saved shortly before the audio was exported;
  • a matching project inside the export’s surrounding folder.
A saved manual link takes priority over automatic matching.

Open a matched project

  1. Right-click the track.
  2. Choose Open in FL.
  3. If Motif asks which version you mean, select the relevant export.
Windows opens the .flp using the application associated with FL Studio project files. If Motif cannot identify a related project:
  1. Right-click the track.
  2. Choose Link FLP….
  3. Select the correct .flp in the Windows file picker.
Motif remembers the relationship for future use. The project itself stays in its existing folder.

Why matching can be ambiguous

Several projects may have similar names, old projects may be saved after their exports, and one audio title may have versions created from different project files. Manual linking is the reliable choice when the automatic result is absent or incorrect.

Naming that helps

Use a stable base name for the project and its exports. Add version markers after that base name rather than changing the whole title on every bounce. For example:
  • project: Night Drive.flp
  • exports: Night Drive v2.wav, Night Drive v3.wav, Night Drive final.wav
This also improves version grouping.
Opening a project does not replace the currently playing audio or modify the export. It simply asks Windows to open the linked .flp.

See what the project used

Once a track is linked, choose Ingredients from its menu to see the samples, MIDI patterns, and presets in the project. See Ingredients and Motif Favorites.
