# Settings

> Manage your creative role, appearance, Library folders, connected services, file handling, updates, and account.

# Settings

Open **Settings** from the bottom of Motif's left sidebar. Settings controls how Motif presents your workspace and which local folders or external services it can use.

## Creative role

The **Creative role** section has separate **Producer** and **Artist** capabilities.

* Enable **Producer** for beats, loops, producer-oriented Library behavior, Opportunities, and Send Outs.
* Enable **Artist** for songs and releases.
* Enable both when you create your own releases and produce music for other people.

Changing the role changes the way Motif describes and groups parts of your Library and triggers a fresh Library scan. It does not rename, move, or edit your music files. You can return to Settings and change it later.

## Appearance

### Theme

Choose one of Motif's preset theme dots or open the custom theme control to choose your own accent treatment. Themes change the application interface, not your music, artwork, or exported content.

## Library

Every folder Motif watches appears in the **Library** section.

### Add a folder

1. Select **Add folder**.
2. Choose a folder in the Windows picker.
3. Wait while Motif scans the folder and its supported subfolders.
4. Open **Library → All** to see the resulting music.

Motif watches selected folders for new music and reads useful information from file and folder names.

### Remove a folder

Use the remove control beside a listed folder when you no longer want that location to contribute to Motif.

Removing a folder from Settings removes that location from the watched Library configuration. It does not delete the folder or its audio files from Windows.

> [!TIP]
>
> Add the stable parent folders that represent your real music workspace. Avoid adding overlapping parent and child folders that contain the same files.

## Connections

The **Connections** section contains optional services used by specific Motif workflows:

| Connection | Used for |
| - | - |
| **Gmail** | Sending packs from Opportunities and Send Outs |
| **YouTube** | Publishing eligible content; choosing subscriptions to follow in Tracked |
| **BeatStars** | Preparing store listings when the connection is available |
| **Telegram** | Following selected chats or channels and sending packs |
| **Discord** | Following selected channels and sending to writable destinations |
| **Google Drive** | Following selected audio folders |
| **Dropbox** | Following selected audio folders |

Select **Connect** beside a service and complete the sign-in or approval flow. A connected row shows the account or service identity in a masked form. Select it if you need to reveal the identity temporarily.

To disconnect, select the **Connected** control and confirm **Disconnect**. The confirmation step prevents an accidental click from unlinking the service.

A service connection does not automatically add every channel, chat, or folder to Motif. After connecting, you still choose the specific Tracked source or destination you want to use.

See [Connections](https://docs.getmotif.page/connections/overview.md) for the difference between account connections, Tracked sources, send destinations, and publishing destinations.

## File Handling

### Disable loop, BPM and key analyzing

Motif can analyze audio to detect loops, BPM, and musical key. Enable **Disable loop, BPM and key analyzing** when you do not want Motif to run that analysis, for example because your file names and folders already identify loops reliably.

This preference affects Motif's interpretation of files. It does not edit the audio.

### Prefer MP3 when dragging

When **Prefer MP3 when dragging** is enabled, Motif uses a matching MP3 copy when one is available. If no matching MP3 exists, it uses the original audio file.

This is useful when dragging music from Motif into another application or message and you prefer the smaller, broadly compatible MP3 version. Disable it when you always want the original format.

## Keyboard Shortcuts

| Shortcut | Action |
| - | - |
| `Space` | Play or pause |
| `←` / `→` | Move playback backward or forward by 5 seconds |
| `↑` / `↓` | Cycle visualizer presets while the visualizer is active |
| `Ctrl + ,` | Open Settings on Windows |

When focus is inside a text field, finish or leave the field before using playback shortcuts.

## Rewind

Select **Rewind History** in the **Rewind** section to open Motif's monthly recaps of what you made, sent, and posted. See [Rewind](https://docs.getmotif.page/rewind/overview.md).

## Legal & About

Open **Legal Center** to read Motif's product policies, privacy information, subscription information, and connected-service disclosures inside the app.

The public product guide explains how features behave, but it does not replace those legal documents.

## General

**Launch Motif at startup** starts Motif when you sign in to Windows. It is enabled by default; turn it off to start Motif manually. This section appears only when the option is supported on your computer.

If Motif cannot change the setting, it shows **Couldn’t update this setting. Try again.**

## Account

The Account section shows the signed-in Google account in masked form. Use the eye control to reveal or hide the full address.

Depending on your current access, this area can also show subscription or licence information. A Motif licence belongs to one named user and can authorize up to three of that user's computers. It cannot be shared with another person.

Select **Sign out** to remove the current account session from the app. Signing out does not delete your local music folders.

## Version and updates

The bottom of Settings shows the installed Motif version.

* Select the version number to open **What's new** for the installed release.
* Select **Check for updates** to ask Motif to look for a newer version.
* When an update is available, Motif opens its update prompt so you can download and restart into the newer version.

If the check reports that Motif is up to date, no further action is needed.
