# Local and connected activity

> Understand the practical difference between local Library activity and optional external connections.

# Local and connected activity

Motif is local-first. Selected folders on your Windows computer form the local Library, and Motif does not need to upload that catalog simply to organize, search, or play it.

## Local Library activity

The following work is based on files on your computer:

* scanning watched folders;
* showing local tracks and FL Studio projects;
* reading useful signals from file and folder names;
* organizing Types, Collab, and Custom views;
* editing Motif's track metadata;
* grouping versions;
* playing local audio;
* opening a source file or related FL Studio project;
* dragging local audio to another compatible Windows app.

Metadata edits, Custom collections, group covers, and manual FL Studio links are workspace information around your files. They do not rename or rewrite the audio.

## Account activity

Motif needs an internet connection to sign in, verify access when required, manage subscription recovery, and check for updates. A temporary offline period can continue when the app has recently verified valid access, but Motif eventually asks to reconnect.

## Tracked activity

Tracked contacts the service associated with the source you selected:

* Discord for chosen channels;
* Telegram for chosen chats, channels, or topics;
* Google Drive for chosen folders;
* Dropbox for chosen folders or shared links;
* YouTube for chosen channels, and for listing your subscriptions if you pick a channel from them.

Remote audio plays from that service unless you download it. A download creates a local copy under `Documents\Motif\<Service>` but does not automatically move it into a watched Library folder.

## Sending activity

Opportunities and Send Outs communicate with only the destinations you select:

* Gmail for Email attachments;
* Telegram for selected writable destinations;
* Discord for selected writable channels.

Review the destination and selected music before sending. Removing a Motif history entry does not recall a message already delivered by an external service.

## Publishing activity

Content communicates with the publishing destination you confirm:

* YouTube for beat videos and Shorts;
* BeatStars for an optional connected store listing.

Scheduled and published entries continue to exist in the provider account. Manage or remove the live entry through that provider after publication.

## Connections are opt-in

Connecting an external account does not automatically follow every source, send a pack, or publish content. Those actions require a second, specific choice inside Tracked or Studio.

Disconnect a service under **Settings → Connections** when you no longer want Motif to use it for new activity.
