# Visualizer

> Use Motif's audio-reactive visualizer: change scenes, go fullscreen, pop it out into a picture-in-picture window, react to desktop audio, and use compatibility mode.

# Visualizer

The visualizer turns the music you are playing into an animated scene. Motif includes almost 400 visualizer presets.

## Open the visualizer

1. Expand the player from the **Now Playing** bar.
2. Use the control in the upper-left corner of the expanded player to switch from **Waveform** to **Visualizer**.

When you expand a track from **Tracked**, Motif opens the visualizer by default.

## Change the scene

* Click the visualizer to jump to another random preset.
* Press `↑` or `↓` to step through the presets in order.
* While music plays, Motif moves to another random preset every 45 seconds.

Scenes blend into each other. Changing the preset does not affect the audio or the playback order.

## Fullscreen

Select the fullscreen button in the visualizer's upper-right corner (**enter fullscreen**). Select it again (**exit fullscreen**) to return to the expanded player.

## Picture-in-picture

Select the **picture-in-picture** button to move the visualizer into its own small window. The window stays on top of other windows and can be resized freely, so you can keep it beside your DAW or another app.

While the visualizer is popped out, the expanded player shows **Visualizer is in picture-in-picture** and a **Return to Motif** button. You can also close the window with its **return to Motif** button. Either way, the visualizer comes back into Motif.

If the window cannot open, Motif shows **Picture-in-picture is unavailable. Please restart Motif.**

### React to desktop

In the picture-in-picture window, right-click the visualizer and select **React to desktop**. The visualizer then reacts to whatever your computer is playing through its default output, not only to Motif. For example, it can react to your DAW or a browser. Select it again to turn it off.

Motif only listens to that output to drive the visuals. It does not record it.

## Compatibility mode

The visualizer needs your computer's graphics support. If it cannot start, it shows **Visualizer unavailable**:

* If you see **Turn on compatibility mode**, select it. Motif switches to a software fallback and restarts once.
* If compatibility mode is already on and the visualizer still cannot start, Motif suggests updating your graphics drivers or enabling hardware acceleration.

Playback and the rest of Motif keep working without the visualizer. You can use the waveform instead.
