# Track details and actions

Motif reads useful information from your files and folder structure, but your Library remains editable. Use a track's context menu when you need to correct its interpretation or take the file into another part of your workflow.

Right-click a local track to open its available actions. The menu changes according to the track, your current Library view, and the connections or publishing workflows you have already configured.

## Edit tags and musical details

Choose **Edit tags** to open the inline editor.

You can set:

| Field | What it controls |
| - | - |
| **BPM** | The track's tempo |
| **Key** | The musical key |
| **Detune** | Additional tuning information, such as `+50 cents` |
| **Type** | Beat, loop, or song |
| **For** | The artist or intended artist for producer material |
| **By** | The producer or creator attribution |
| **Tags** | Comma-separated style, mood, purpose, or custom labels |

Select **save** or press `Ctrl + Enter` to apply the changes. Press `Escape` to leave without saving the current editor state.

A type you set manually is treated as your decision. Motif does not replace that choice with later automatic detection.

### How tags affect the Library

Tags help Motif group and retrieve music. Use concise values that will make sense later, such as a genre, mood, workflow state, or recurring project label.

Do not include creator handles in the general Tags field. Use **By** and **For** for creator context so Collab and credit presentation remain clear.

## Link or open an FL Studio project

Motif can associate a local audio export with a related `.flp` project.

* If no project is linked, choose **Link FLP…** and select the project file.
* When a project is already matched, choose **Open in FL** to open it through Windows in FL Studio.

Linking a project gives you a return path from the export to the production session. It does not embed the FL Studio project into the audio file.

If Open in FL fails, confirm that FL Studio is installed and `.flp` files open correctly when double-clicked in Windows Explorer.

## See a project's Ingredients

Choose **Ingredients** to see the samples, MIDI patterns, and plugin presets used in the track's FL Studio project. If the track has no linked project yet, the panel offers **Link FLP…** first.

See [Ingredients and Motif Favorites](https://docs.getmotif.page/library/ingredients-and-favorites.md).

## Show the source file in Windows

Choose **Show in folder** to reveal the local audio file in Windows Explorer.

Use this when you want to rename, move, duplicate, or inspect the real file. Remember that moving or renaming a watched source file outside Motif changes what the watcher sees; allow Motif time to update the Library afterward.

## Add a track to a Custom collection

Choose **Add to category**, then select one or more Custom collections.

If no collections exist, create one in **Library → Custom** first. Adding a track to a collection creates an organizational relationship in Motif; it does not move the source file into another Windows folder.

When you are already inside a Custom collection, the context menu also includes **Remove from *collection name***. This removes only the membership in that collection.

## Post to a connected Discord channel

A Custom collection can be associated with a writable Discord destination. When you are inside such a collection, an eligible local track can show **Post to #channel**.

Use this only when you intend to send that file to the named channel. Motif asks for confirmation before posting.

## Post an eligible beat to YouTube

After YouTube publishing has been set up successfully, local tracks identified as beats can show **Post to YouTube**.

Loops do not receive this Library action. Selecting it opens the YouTube preparation workflow rather than publishing immediately without review.

See [Content](https://docs.getmotif.page/studio/content.md) for publishing requirements and options.

## Drag audio out of Motif

Drag a local track into a DAW, file window, message, or another application that accepts file drops.

If **Prefer MP3 when dragging** is enabled, Motif uses a matching MP3 when one is available and falls back to the original file otherwise.

Tracked remote items behave differently because they may not yet have a local path. See [Save Tracked music locally](https://docs.getmotif.page/tracked/save-locally.md).

## Actions that may not appear

Motif shows only actions that apply to the current track and context. For example:

* FL Studio actions depend on whether a project is linked;
* YouTube actions require an eligible beat and a completed YouTube publishing setup;
* Discord posting requires a connected destination on the current Custom collection;
* Remove from collection appears only when browsing that collection;
* remote Tracked tracks show Download or Show in folder instead of local-file editing actions.

This keeps potentially consequential actions tied to the place where they make sense.
