# Organize your music

> Use automatic groupings, Custom collections, cover art, drag and drop, and editable metadata without rearranging source folders.

# Organize your music

Motif combines automatic views with Custom collections. Neither approach moves or duplicates source audio.

## Choose the right view

* **All** is the broadest chronological view and the best place for search.
* **Types** is useful when names and tags already describe a sound or style.
* **Collab** gathers music around recognized collaborators.
* **Custom** is for a purpose files cannot infer: a pack, release plan, client selection, or current project.

## Build a Custom collection

Open **Library → Custom**, select **New category**, enter a name, and press Enter. The app calls Custom collections categories.

Add tracks by right-clicking a track and choosing **Add to category**, or drag a track onto a Custom card in the grid or sidebar.

Inside a collection you can:

* play it in its current order with the play button;
* shuffle it with the shuffle button;
* select **Add tracks** and search the Library from a picker;
* filter eligible tracks by type;
* enter **Edit** mode, select several rows, and choose **Remove N**;
* drag rows to change their order;
* remove one track with **Remove from *Collection***.

Removing a track from a collection does not delete it from the Library or Windows.

## Name and arrange collections

Use a collection card's menu to rename or delete it. Drag cards to establish a manual order.

Useful patterns include active packs before archives, one collection per collaborator, release candidates ordered by confidence, or project stages such as Ideas, Finish, Mix, and Ready.

## Add cover art

Types, Collab, Custom, and Tracked cards can use cover art.

1. Open the card's `…` menu.
2. Choose **Change cover art**.
3. Select an image from Windows.

When custom art is present, the menu also offers **Remove cover art**. Cover art changes the identity of a group, not artwork embedded in an individual audio file.

## Correct automatic organization

Right-click a track and choose **Edit tags** to correct its type, credits, BPM, key, detune, or tags. Manual edits are stored by Motif and do not rewrite the audio file.

## Use drag and drop

Drag a track out of Motif to hand its audio file to Explorer, a DAW, or another compatible Windows destination.

Enable **Settings → File Handling → Prefer MP3 when dragging** when you normally want a matching MP3 rather than a larger source render. If no matching MP3 exists, Motif uses the available original.
